The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), forms part of the Defence Force, to prepare for, conduct and sustain effective air operations to promote Australia's security and interests. It was initially created as the Australian Air Force, with the prefix "Royal" being granted by Royal charter on 13 August 1921.
