The Inspector-General of Biosecurity (IGB) is a statutory position created by the Biosecurity Act 2015. The IGB is responsible for reviewing the performance of functions, or exercise of powers, by biosecurity officials under one or more provisions of the act. In addition to reviewing the performance of functions under the Biosecurity Act, the Inspector-General of Biosecurity may also review the process used to prepare a draft Biosecurity Import Risk Assessment (BIRA).
