Your guide to the structures, organisations and key people in the Australian Government

Employment and Workplace Relations
Jobs and Skills Australia’s (JSA) central role is to advise government and key partners in the national skills system on Australia’s skills needs and the adequacy of the skills system in meeting those needs. On Friday 18 August 2023 the Jobs and Skills Australia Act 2022 was amended, establishing JSA’s permanent model by providing additional and clarified functions and settling the governance arrangements. JSA’s main functions are to provide independent advice to the Minister for Skills and Training and the Secretary of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations on Australia’s current and emerging labour market, including workforce needs and priorities, and Australia’s current, emerging, and future skills and training needs and priorities. JSA provides reports on the labour market and workforce skills and training needs, and prioritises to assist with government policy development and program delivery. The work of JSA is achieved through deep engagement and consultation with key stakeholders, including tripartite partnerships between the Australian Government, state and territory governments, unions, industry, and education providers.
