PITCH seeks to shape and implement Government priorities by providing informed, timely and effective policy advice to Treasury Ministers regarding the taxation of individuals, small business, and particular industry sectors, and in respect of indirect taxes, the taxation and regulation of not-for-profits, and tax administration.
A major characteristic of PITCH’s business is that it is wide, multi-layered, and outward facing. The Division regularly engages the Departments of Agriculture, Health, Industry and Resources, Energy, Home Affairs and Social Services as well as central policy agencies. Stakeholder engagement extends to agencies and bodies for which the Division has policy responsibility, including the Australian Taxation Office, Inspector General of Taxation, Tax Practitioners Board, and a diverse range of other government bodies including the Australian Charities and Not for-profits Commission and Industry Innovation and Science Australia. The Division has built ongoing relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in the community including accounting and legal professional bodies, industry associations, and specialist tax groups (such as the Tax Institute of Australia, Small Business Ombudsman, the Shadow Economy Forum, tax advisers, taxpayer groups and individuals, businesses and non-for-profits directly affected by policies). The Division maintains a constructive working arrangement with the States and Territories on GST and State taxation matters.
