Marine and Island Parks

Manage 60 marine parks (including the recently proclaimed Indian Ocean Territories Marine Parks) covering 39%, or around 3.5 million km2, of Australia’s wateers. Manage three terrestrial national islands parks: Christmas Island, Norfolk Island and Pulu-Keeling National Parks. Assessment, monitoring and enforcement of EPBC Act compliance within parks. Delivery of programs, including grants, to support science, Indigenous and stakeholder engagement and conservation. Delivery of the Ghost Net Initiative to address the impacts of ghost nets on marine life in Northern Australia.
