We supervise uranium mining and rehabilitation operations, conduct an independent environmental monitoring program and undertake research into the potential impacts of mining. SSB utilises cutting edge technologies including drones, artificial intelligence and DNA analysis and oversees DAWE’s compliance with CASA’s drone regulations. SSB supports the wider Department by assisting to develop a range of biosecurity tools, providing expert advice to inform EPBC assessments and managing uranium mining waste disposal and legacy sites in Kakadu National Park on behalf of the Director of National Parks.
