Innovation and Strategic Research

The Innovation and Strategic Research branch leads DSTG’s contribution to Defence’s Innovation programs and represents DSTG at Defence Innovation forums. This includes ensuring effective leadership and governance of the Next Generation Technologies program, the implementation of the Concept to Capability strategy, and representation at the Innovation Steering Group (ISG) and the Hub Investment Advisory Group (HIAG). They lead and deliver an integrated strategic research program which encompasses the identification and development of research programs for strategic research disciplines, the development of strategic research challenges and progression of the StaR shot program through to defence capability. They also provide strategic leadership for the development of the defence science and technology enterprise in Australia. This includes the University sector, Publicly Funded Research Organisations and private research entities.
