The Deputy CHO (DCHO) provides support to the CHO and deputises for and acts as the CHO as required. The Deputy CHO provides expert clinical leadership and advice to support the Department and provides leadership to, and is responsible for, the work of the Chief Health Officer Support Unit. The DCHO is responsible to the CHO for the clinical leadership, technical control, development and administration of the Health clinical advisers, including the clinical governance framework under which they practice.  The DCHO acts as the national escalation point for any disputes regarding clinical advice from Health clinical advisers.
