Structure, organisations and key people
ASIO's role is to advise government on security threats to Australia and Australian interests in Australia and abroad. The ASIO Act defines security as the protection of Australia and its people from: espionage, sabotage, politically motivated violence, promotion of communal violence, attacks on Australia's defence system, and acts of foreign interference, wherever these activities occur. ASIO also carries out Australia's responsibilities to any foreign country in relation to these matters. ASIO has an important role in Australia's counter-terrorism arrangements. It also contributes to the collection of foreign intelligence in Australia.
