Structure, organisations and key people
The MCDS is supported by the Intergovernmental Committee on Drugs. The IGCD consists of senior offices representing health and law enforcement
in each Australian jurisdiction (appointed by their respective health and law enforcement ministers) and people with expertise in identified priority areas (for example, representatives of the Australian Customs Service and the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs). The IGCD provides policy advice to Ministers on the full range of drug-related matters and is responsible for implementing the National Drug Strategic Framework endorsed by MCDS in November 1998, and National Drug Strategy policies and programs, as directed by the MDCS.
